Privacy policy

Last updated: July 2026

Unlokid (“Unlokid”, “we”, “us”) helps parents turn screen time into learning: children pass short, curriculum-aligned quizzes to unlock the apps you choose on a supported Android device. Because Unlokid is used by families and their children, we take privacy seriously and try to collect as little as we can. This policy explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Unlokid mobile app, the parent web dashboard, and our marketing site.

1. Who we are

Unlokid is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. If you have any question about how we handle data, or want to exercise any of the rights described below, you can reach us any time at contact@unlokid.com and we will respond as quickly as we reasonably can.

Unlokid is currently offered as an invite-only beta. Some details in this policy (for example, the exact list of subprocessors or paid plans) may evolve as the product matures; we will update this page and the “last updated” date when they do.

2. Information we collect

Account information: when a parent creates an account we receive an email address and a basic identifier from our authentication provider. We do not store your password ourselves. You may optionally set a parent PIN, which is stored in a hashed form and used to protect settings on the child’s device.

Child profiles: to generate the right quizzes, parents provide details about each child such as a first name or nickname, an age or school grade, country, and the school and foreign languages they are learning. You choose what to enter — a nickname is fine.

Learning activity: quiz questions served, the answers your child gives (including free-text answers to open-ended questions), scores, time spent, streaks, topics practised, and which subjects or custom topics you enable. We use this to grade answers, show progress, and tune difficulty.

Device and configuration data: which apps you have chosen to lock, unlock rules and screen-time settings, pairing status between the parent account and the child device, and security events (for example, an attempt to uninstall Unlokid or disable device administration) that we surface to you as alerts.

Files you upload: if you use custom study material, we process the files or text you provide so we can generate matching quizzes. You control what you upload and can delete it.

Technical data: basic logs, device model and operating-system version, app version, approximate region inferred from your IP address, and diagnostic information needed to keep the service secure, reliable, and free of abuse. We do not use advertising identifiers.

3. How we use your information

We use the information above to: create and operate your account; generate, deliver, and grade quizzes; enforce the screen-time rules you configure; show progress and reports in the parent dashboard; send the alerts and notifications you opt into (such as an uninstall attempt or a weekly summary); provide customer support; process subscriptions and trials where applicable; and keep the service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with our legal obligations.

Some quizzes and answer grading are produced with the help of automated systems and trusted AI subprocessors. Your child’s answers may be sent to those subprocessors solely to grade the answer and generate feedback. We do not use your or your child’s content to train third-party advertising models, and we do not build advertising profiles of children.

4. Legal bases (EEA/UK)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases: performance of a contract (to provide the service you asked for); our legitimate interests (to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and improve it, balanced against your rights); your consent (for optional communications, where required); and compliance with legal obligations. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

5. Children’s privacy

Unlokid is designed to be set up and controlled by a parent or guardian for their own child. The child-facing app is a learning tool: it does not contain third-party advertising, does not sell data, does not build marketing profiles of children, and does not ask children for personal information beyond what is needed to run a quiz.

A parent creates the profile, decides what information to provide, and can review, export, or delete the child’s data at any time from the parent dashboard. If you believe a child has provided us data without the involvement of a parent or guardian, contact us at contact@unlokid.com and we will delete it.

6. How we share information

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We share data only with trusted service providers (“subprocessors”) who process it on our instructions and under contract — for example: authentication, cloud hosting and databases, email delivery, payment processing, error monitoring, and the AI providers that help generate and grade quizzes.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to respond to lawful requests from public authorities, to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or Unlokid, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case we will notify you and this policy will continue to protect your data.

7. International transfers

We and our subprocessors may process data in countries other than the one you live in. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards recognised under applicable law (such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect it.

8. Data retention

We keep personal data only for as long as needed to provide the service and for the purposes described here. Learning activity is kept so you can track progress over time; if you delete a child profile or your account, the associated data is deleted or anonymised, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, accounting, or security obligations. Uploaded custom material is retained until you delete it or delete the associated profile.

9. Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and server-side grading so answers are not exposed on the device. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your family’s data and to detect and respond to incidents. If a breach affects your data and the law requires it, we will notify you and the relevant authorities.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export (portability), delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Parents can review and edit child profiles, export the data we hold, and permanently delete a child profile or the whole account directly from the parent app under Account → Privacy & data. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone.

You can also unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time using the link in the email or your notification settings. If you have a complaint you have the right to contact your local data-protection authority, but we would appreciate the chance to help first at contact@unlokid.com.

11. Cookies and analytics

Our web dashboard and marketing site use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences such as language. We keep analytics minimal and privacy-respecting, and we do not use advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product and legal requirements evolve. When we make material changes we will update the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Unlokid after an update means you accept the revised policy.

13. Contact us

For any privacy question or request — including access, export, or deletion — email us at contact@unlokid.com. We are happy to help.
